When people are faced with mounting expenditure eating healthily is often one of the first parts of a budget to get slashed.

Quote:
7. The Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s science based, minimum income food standard is currently £45.65 a week for a single adult; that includes five helpings of fresh fruit and vegetables a day and two fish meals a week; it has been researched by nutritionists, checked for reasonableness with the public and priced at supermarkets. To buy a healthy diet a single man or woman needs to be able to spend a minimum of £45.65 a week; but JSA is only £51.85 aged 18-25 and £65.45 a week aged 26-60.

You can eat a healthy diet on a low income, it just involves knowing where to shop and planning meals. Frozen veg, big bags of pasta, rice, dried legumes, etc are good for cupboard filling and will last long. Fruit is the harder one because it doesn't last long but you can get cheap fruit in places like Aldi and Lidls.

Fish, as well as other meats are ridiculously expensive. I'm vegan so I have the luxury of avoiding those expenses.

The big problem is that people have other expense to pay out of their meager allowances.TV licenses which are compulsory, gas and electric that are a necessity, and clothing to if you do not want to be done for indecent exposure.Oh and socialising.Even poor people are allowed to go out now and then. Then there is Bus Fares etc.The likes of IDS saying they are helping the poor is a laugh.Do you help people by grinding them into the dirt.

Yet they are hardly touching the wealthy Tax Dodgers.Same old Tories. And yes Labour did bring in ESA and Atos. But the Condems are still using ESA and Atos to inflict further cuts on the sick.

I also forgot toothpaste, soap, washing up liquid, shampoo.I am sure the toffs do not want us smelling the place out so even they should welcome allowances for that.

Then their is replacing equipment like washing machines, fridges oh and don't forget the 42" Widescreen that the Right Wing press claim we all have.

I have a old fashioned 28" TV so I doubt they would want to publish that.I also shop at the Best Shops.Banardo's ,Oxfam,Cancer Research Charity shop etc.I certainly live it up. =))
