Ive had a horrible day and this nearly finished me off. I cant stop laughing and when I cant stop laughing it means im sort of upset. At least this will give a giggle to Katie Hopkins and others of her ilk!!!!A DISABLED pensioner suffered a stroke as bailiffs attempted to take his bed away over an unpaid parking ticket.
Mario Ansalone... clutched at the railings and dropped to the floor after collapsing outside his home in Endsleigh Street, Bloomsbury, The 71-year-old blue badge holder – a former Rolls-Royce chauffeur – confronted heavies sent by Transport for London (TfL) on April 5.
Luckily, Mr Ansalone’s wife Margaret returned home, helped her husband to his feet and was able to call for an ambulance.
She said: “I splashed some water on him and he was grabbing at his face. If something like this happens again it’ll finish him. It was lucky I was coming around the corner at the time. I told them to get out of here. But they said they wanted his bed.”
Mr Ansalone’s Gower Street GP later confirmed the stroke and said the experience had left him “traumatised” and “shaken him considerably”.
Ms Ansalone, who worked for Camden Council for 40 years, said she paid the bailiffs £410 – the couple’s cash savings.“It is not right what is happening to disabled people in this country,” she said. “They should lay off them.”
Mr Ansalone suffers from chronic medical conditions, including arthritis, hyper-tension, diabetes and memory loss.
The penalty charge notice was issued in a Finchley Road 20-minute loading bay in November 2010...
The couple contested the £130 fine with the parking adjudicator but failed to get it cancelled.
Letters were sent to their home warning about the consequences of failing to pay, according to the TfL spokesman. He added that the “normal procedures” had been followed but would not be drawn on the moral question of whether it was right to send debt collectors to a disabled pensioner’s home.
Mr Ansalone came to this country from Salerno, near Naples in Italy, aged 25.
