After being informed on 7 June that I had been transferred from IB to support group without a medical I felt I could breathe a sigh of relief, which I did until a day ago, then it all flares up again thanks to DWP.
I am also in receipt of DLA and whenever IB or DLA has been due it appears in my bank account approximately 30 minutes after midnight when the banks have updated their system.
I was due IB or, rather now the renamed ESA today (12th). I checked after midnight Wednesday and it did not appear. I remained up until 4am constantly checking my account to no avail.
At 8.03 this morning I rang my office, I was in a queue until 8.51, I was getting very frustrated knowing this call was costing me money and worse still hearing the message ‘’ we are extremely busy at the moment, you may wish to try later, we are less busy between 8 and 9am’’ That was the very time I was ringing.
Eventually I got through to a male who was very helpful, I didn’t complain to him as it was obviously not his fault; he is there just to answer calls.
He confirmed that my payment had been processed and would appear in my account on Friday (13th)
When I asked why the payment date had been changed he told me it was due to my national insurance number. That makes no sense to me.
One day later may seem trivial; I had a bill that needed to be paid by Friday or at least appears on that bill by Friday which means at the very latest I would have to pay by Thursday.
I have now had to use my planned overdraft to pay this bill. Although I have an agreed overdraft my bank will charge me a £10 fee for using the facility. So thanks to DWP I am now out of pocket to the tune of £10 plus a 65 minute phone call.
I then mentioned that on 8 June I had posted a letter requesting ESA85a and that I had not heard anything. Apparently it had not been received; I think I will adopt that attitude when my next electricity bill is delivered.
I hope that Tendo is reading this post as the following may be relevant to you.
When he asked why I wanted the report I explained that I did not know how long I would be in the support group for. He told me that I had been placed in that group for one year. I then asked why the payments were effective until the end of November and he told me that is when the rates are revised and is nothing to do with the duration of which group one is in.
When I received the letter in June telling me I had been placed in the support group why on earth did it not state the duration?.
Sorry for my long rant but this has really got to me today and caused me a great deal of anxiety.

I'm sorry to read that you're out of pocket because of the DWP's incompetence Magenta. It just seems to go from bad to worse X( .

I was told that my first ESA payment would be the 13th July, however I received my IB payment on the 11th, so I guess that I'll have to wait 2 weeks to receive the higher rate.

It's good to hear that we're both in the SG for a year though :D .

I am confused about what he said about November though. 'They' usually decide what the new payment rates are going to be for benefits around about then, but the new rates are implemented in April, the new tax year :-\ . Unless they've changed the way that works now?

I don't wish to put a damper on things, but are you sure or have you been told you are in SG for a year or are you basing it on my answer?
If you remember both our letters stated that the payments were effective until the end of November. I agree that the payments are reviewed around November but they are never implemented until the following April. To me it is still confusing. I will still post back when and if I get this blessed ESA85a form

Yes, I was basing it on your answer, looking on the optimistic side of things for a change 8-} . And I'm still confused about what he said about November too :-\ .

I don't know if this is relevant, but when I worked for the 'good old' DHSS back in the 70s, the annual 'uprating' was every November, which is when I think the new rates announced in that year's Budget were actually implemented. As we are talking about the Civil Service, it may be that a mountain range has to move before time-honoured traditions change! However, as the new rates now are paid each April, the annual 'uprating' may have now become simply a review, in which nothing much happens.

Yes, that's what I thought TiddK.

I still don't understand why the announcement of the new rates, in November 2012 for April 2013, means that our payment dates are up to 29th November 2012. They can't change the amount of our payment until April 2013.

I guess we just have to wait for our ESA85a or December, whichever is soonest! :-o

As I have previously mentioned why on earth could it not state in the letter we received, you will be in whatever group for xxx amount of time. We see this reference that payment is effective until the end of November and it means nothing to us or, at the very least a very confusing reference and we are left bewildered. Tendo, may I suggest if you have not heard anything after a month that you telephone them as I did last week to inquire if they have received your request. If you remember when I spoke to them last week they had not received my request. They did tell me I am in SG for a year but I still want written confirmation as proof.
I sincerely hope you have been placed in SG for a year but it is unfair on you that you have to assume that based on my outcome.
I have read some posts that it is not advisable to request ESA85A but merely accept the decision. Until we get this form neither of us are going to know for sure what our position is.

Thanks Magenta. Yes, I'll phone them at the start of August, if I haven't received my ESA85a before then. Did you phone your local Job Centre, or the number on your letter?

You'd think after being placed in the Support Group, the fiasco would be over, but oh no, the saga continues. . .

Tendo, I am sorry I thought I had replied before, it is only today I notice I did not reply to your post.
I actually rang the number on the letter. That was 12 July and have still not heard. GRRRR!
