Hello everyone, I hope you can help me with a query I have. My partner is on DLA lower rate (care) and ESA in the WRAG. He wants to go back to work, if he can find suitable employment, but he is not being pressured to do so at the moment. However, what I would like to find out is this: if he decides to take a temporary job (eg 3 months work) what happens afterwards? Does he sign on for JSA, does he reclaim ESA or something else? If he does put in an ESA claim, will he start again from week 1 of the assessment phase? If the latter is true, then temporary jobs will make him worse off, having to go through the whole rigmarole again. Can anyone shed any light on this issue? He hasn't applied for anything yet, but would like to know if it is worth doing, from a financial standpoint.

Difficult one. I'd say that a 3 month temporary job would be about the worst option, frankly, for all the reasons you've listed. What I'd recommend is this :
EITHER to get a permanent job, providing he has checked out it will be something he can cope with,
OR to do "permitted work" which means he can still claim ESA but can only work so many hours pw and only earn up to a certain maximum.
