I wouldn't feel sorry for them. The government and Atos don't seem to appreciate that they're putting pressure on people who may be unstable and feel they have nothing left to lose. I'd be worried if I were them, but it's their own doing if/when someone cracks and they're in the firing line.

Indeed not. The Government knows EXACTLY what it is doing and is prepared to turn a blind eye to the trauma it can cause - the ends justifies the means, or as my staunch Tory MP so compassionately explained, "you cannot make an omelette without breaking eggs". Atos can largely slip off the hook on the basis that they are only doing what the Government has contracted them to do - expecting them corporately or individually to display a moral conscience is asking a lot in these days of private sector supremacy.

Yes it's very worrying the dreadful thing is that so many extemely vulnerable people are being innapropriately called for assessments only for them to attempt or complete the act of suicide because of the fear of losing their benefits and the stress and fear of appeals/ repeat assessments. This is why under thge old PCA exempt rules vulnerable people were to some extent protected, I know CAB and other Disability groups are pressing for the return of protection for vulnerable claimants.

Yeah but that would just be the thin end of the wedge. Where do you draw the line? Next thing you'll be saying that people like me - with progressive MS - should also receive protected status =))

Yes, what are the odds on that, and what's doubly strange is that my wife has spms, I beleive that CAB and some disabilty groups/charities are campaigning for a return of something similar to the old PCA exempt, rules for IS/IB/SDA , which are still on the statute books.

Make sure your wife is registered with the nearest MS Therapy Centre if she isn't already (she can find the full list from Googling) - many of them have specialist CAB advisers attached to deal with ESA claims and appeals.

Thanks that's most kind, sadly it's now way past that point, last week the Sister from the district nurses wanted to discuss the local hospice and morphine with me, unfortunately my wife has rare complications.

Thanks TiddK, yes it's very rare and very sad as my wife and I have been struggling for decades, as you say it is unusual.
